The Best Stainless Steel Coffee Mug Story Ever
by Steve (again)
My Favorite Stainless Steel Mug
So this is my favorite stainless steel coffee mug and I'll tell you why.
If you can see in the details in the photo it is personalized on the side to say "Crew Chef".
Well... I received that mug from the Continental Divide Trail Alliance after volunteering to build trails in the Wind River Range in Wyoming.
When I first signed up for the week long project the application had a box you could check to become a Crew Chief.
I have a lot of experience backpacking and digging in the dirt, so I checked the box, hoping to put my skills to use.
Several weeks later I received a packet in the mail outlining my trip. Included in the packet was a bunch of information on planning meals for large groups in the back country.
When I looked closer I realized that rather than signing up as a "Crew Chief" I had signed up as a "Crew Chef". I had misread the application.
I didn't know much about cooking for more than two people at a time. But, at this point they were counting on me, so I couldn't exactly back out.
So, I dove in with both feet and I prepared 3 meals a day for 12 people for 5 days on some really awesome Coleman stoves.
And do you know what? Everyone loved it, and said I was one of the best "Crew Chefs" they'd had... and one of the only ones who helped build trails too!
Not to mention that we had this awesome old stainless steel percolator so I made a huge jug of coffee every morning and we sat around drinking coffee out of our various backpacking travel mugs and telling camping stories.
Anyway, several months after I returned home from the trip, they sent me this awesome custom stainless steel backpacking mug with the words "Crew Chef" engraved on it and I use it every day!
