Why Fire King Coffee Mugs Are So Popular
Commemorative, decorative and seasonal, Fire King Coffee Mugs are some of the nicest looking, highest quality and sought after collectable cups. If you are new to the collector’s scene, then here is a short run down on why Fire King is so popular.
What is Fire King?
Fire King Mugs are Jadeite, glass, azurite, or Vitrock cups produced by the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation. From 1940 to the late 1970s, the company produced these quality coffee mugs and because of their limited quantity, they are somewhat of a collector’s item today. A few of the scarcer editions have even fetched quite a bit of money in online auctions. These vintage coffee mugs are a great addition to any coffee mug collection.
Different Kinds of Mugs by Fire King
Fire King cups come in all shapes and sizes. Some of the earlier cups are the basic coffee mug shape, while some later styles take on a goblet or stouter form. You’ll quickly see that there are many retro and unique styles available online.
Jadeite mugs are some of the most beautiful coffee cups available. The name of the material comes from the color of glass used in production. Green glass for the mugs was melted down and poured into molds. This makes each piece somewhat different from all the others. Its unmistakably milky green color is gorgeous with any décor.
Vintage Jadeite not only looks great, but is also a smart investment in a rare collector’s piece. But, you’ll want to be a bit wary when buying Jadeite coffee mugs. Knock offs that use a material similar to, but not nearly as valuable as Jadeite are widely circulated.
While it’s the most popular color and style, you’ll be happy to know that they come in a wide variety of colors. White, peach, light blue and other pastels are very common. Many of the white mugs feature seasonal, pastoral or decorative abstract patterns. Once you realize the scope of Fire King designs, you are sure to find a pattern or style that is perfect for your collection or just for your daily cup of coffee.

How to Recognize an Authentic Fire King?
If you are unsure about the authenticity of a Fire King mug, then turn the cup over and see if it has the embossed Fire King script logo on the bottom. If the Anchor Hocking Company did not make the mug, it is not an authentic cup. Copies by companies such as Glasbake, Libbey and Termocrisa, produced good mugs, but are definitely not the real Fire King. Additionally, after the Fire King coffee mug line was discontinued, the Hocking Anchor Company continued to produce mugs. Although these are also high quality items, don’t mistake them as Fire King mugs.
Where to Find Fire King Coffee Mugs
Just as with other collectable cups, Fire King coffee mugs are widely available on online auction sites, like eBay, as well as a number of specialty websites.
